How much should I push myself?? Input Needed!

Tonight at boot camp some of the members were talking about training for a half-marathon and were trying to convince me to try it as well. I've never run more than 3 miles at a time and while I've always wondered if I should run the Music City Half-Marathon, I've always been too chicken to do so.

So, here's the question with the date of April in mind:

Should I try to run a half-marathon?

Nothing ventured, etc.etc.etc. Maybe a good way to look at it is what is the worst that could happen?? You don't finish...so what, at least you tried. Just think about when you do finish, what an amazing feeling it would be.If nothing else, the knowledge you did it is worth it, and the fact you got in great shape getting ready is the cherry on top.

If my knee would let me run one, I would. Thank Little Baby Jesus for your good knees and do it.

If it were me, honestly, I'd do the half marathon that's in October. I would want more than four months to train, having never run more than three miles myself.

But I also wouldn't want to do all of my training outside in the winter and early spring around here. It's milder in Nashville, so these months might be better for your training--cooler, lower humidity.

Wow. How spectacularly unhelpful. Flipfloppery, anyone?

Let's see. Relatively new job, new responsibilities. Renewed attention to eating habits. Bad weather in the winter (witness snow today). More focus on relationship. Heart month. No Dr. Huizinga to help monitor your "push". Work for a 10k, then go 1/2 marathon.
